The phenomena of EDXRF / XRF (Energy Dispersive) X-ray fluorescence occurs when a material is bombarded with high energy X-rays or gamma rays. When exposed to these high energy rays some materials will emit lower energy X-rays, which are more popular called fluorescence radiation. The fluorescence spectrum exhibits characteristical bands related to the specific atoms in the material. Applications are numerous. For example in the industry for the determination of elemental analysis and chemical analysis. The technology is used in applications where metals, ceramics. glass, building materials have to be examined. Also in geochemistry, forensic research and archeology.
